Smiths of Smithfield
67-77 Charterhouse Street, Clerkenwell , EC1M 6HJ, London
Resplendent in it's neon pink sineage, the colossal Smith's building dominates the road and leaves all who witness it prostate in prayer on the pavement outside.
Such is the magntiude of the place ? four floors of action is the name of the day, with the relaxed cafe-cum-bar area occupying the bottom floor and the restaurants taking up the rest ? the poshest being the at the top.
The food is of the beefy variety ? you can have your cow in a plethora of different ways ? with a few pan-Asian type things throne in as a concession to variety. Smiths is open from 7am in the week so if your in the area it?s a top spot for an early morning re-fuel with an impressive selection of British breakfast favourites, porridge, bacon buttys, fresh fruit and muesli and a mighty fine full English are all in attendance.
The drinks are similarly varied with over two thousand bottles of wine kept on site, and there are also plenty of unusual beers to down or sip.The crowd is a nice mix of suits and civilians, tending towards the older crowd who like the finer things in life. An operation on the scale of Smith's certainly took guts to start, but it's certainly paid off.
