Best For Late Night Drinks

The bell has tolled, but you′re in no mood to go home. Conversation is flowing and hilarious, and it′d be simply criminal to end the night now.

Big Chill House

257-259 Pentonville Road, Kings Cross, N1 9NL, London

Yet another creeping tentacle of the sprawling Big Chill festival 'n' funness circuit, the bar occupies a pretty charming building on the Pentonville Road. It's certainly an impressive operation - multi-storied and well decorated, there are various nooks and crannies that you can dive into and share twenty-quid jugs of cocktails or pints of freshish lager.

Defectors Weld

170 Uxbridge Road, Shepherds Bush , W12 8AA, London

If one were permitted to make a tenuous metaphor between a pub and a character in popular fiction, then the comparison between the wonderfully titled Defector's Weld with Doctor Jekyl and Mr Hyde is perhaps the best that one can manage on already very thin ground.

Dogstar

389 Coldharbour Lane, Brixton, SW9 8LQ, London

Being a bit of legend in the Brixton area means that Dogstar has its reputation to think of. It may have had its up and downs in recent years, but the old haunt still has a lot going for it - the semi-recent addition of super-quality Mexican food - some say its amongst the best in the whole city - certainly adds something to the place, and a plate of fresh guacamole and tortillas is welcome addition to a round of ice cold bottled beers (of which they have loads).

Punk

14 Soho Street, Soho, W1D 3DN, London

Packed to the rafters with fashionably attired comely young things, Punk's uber-strict door policy is double edged sword: whilst keeping away the packs of leering futures traders, it also flatly refuses entry to anyone not dripping in Japanese-import denim.

Tooting Tram And Social

Prince Albert

418 Coldharbour Lane , Brixton, SW9 8LF, London

The near twenty-four hour riot that spills out of the Brixton underground station needs a pub to soak up the bedraggled survivors, and the Prince Albert does a fine job. It's certainly not a polished place - don't expect anything other than a strong drink in a warm glass - but it's not bad for it.

Privacy is something that us Englanders love ? we're never happier than when we're in our own little domain, discussing matters that aren't anyone else's bloody business. If you find yourself wanting to keep some secrets, toddle over to the Waterloo Brasserie and book a private booth to furtively plan away.
